Steam updating slow
I've got two computers in my home network, both with Steam installed.
If there's an update to Steam itself or the kids install a game it has to be downloaded to both.
I have used WINE and Codeweavers for many years and have never noticed anything like this.
I was playing CIV V through Steam earlier this evening. When I came back, everything started up just fine, but the game itself is barely playable.
If you do not want all the sounds and maps which take up a lot of space, you can simply take the files for each game from Program Files/Steam/Steam Apps, these are the biggest files in the update which will save the most time. The files it creates can be moved from PC to PC and restored on any one.
Alright here's the problem ever since last week Microsoft came out with 30 something updates for Windows 8.1.
Internet seems to work without hiccup, HD videos in Youtube stream just fine. I have not noticved slow speeds (games download very fast per the speed of my internet connection).
It's not *that* bad but still, something weird is going on.
I couldn't imagine this has anything to do with Codeweavers or even WINE, but more likely your internet connection, your router/modem equipment, conditions surrounding the time of the day (day of the week), or conditions surrounding the server where the content is hosted.
Keep in mind that individual websites or services will be located on a discrete server separate from another website or service, so you will be subject to the limits of that server despite your internet connection possibly being faster.
Also, depending on your neighborhood, time of the day, or other factors, your actual internet connection can vary as well.

How/why did this affect CIV V through Steam, and how can I fix it? I tried turning off Windows Defender as you instructed out of respect for the fact that I clearly don't have the answers myself, but as I said, the ONLY thing that changed from when it was working to when it wasn't working is the pm Kaspersky database release.
